Performance Piston Coatings
PolyDyn offers two types of piston coating: Ceramic Piston Coating and Dry Film Piston Skirt Coating. Both protect the piston and drastically increase its longevity. Which one we specify depends on what the engine has to do, so if you are not sure, tell us about the build.
PolyDyn Performance Ceramic Piston Coating
PolyDyn ceramic piston coating does not only protect the piston. It makes the piston stronger and more efficient by significantly enhancing the structural integrity of the piston dome. PolyDyn HS is scientifically formulated to maintain the same coefficient of expansion as the base metal it is applied to. It protects and insulates to maintain structural integrity and reduce potential engine failure.
PolyDyn HS does not just protect the piston from heat, it evenly distributes heat through the combustion chamber, allowing for more efficient flame travel. The extreme heat insulating polymers reduce heat saturation into the piston, which keeps more heat in the combustion chamber. That allows more fuel and less timing, which builds more power. The same ceramic goes on the combustion chamber and valve faces of coated cylinder heads.
PolyDyn Performance Dry Film Piston Skirt Coating
PolyDyn RP piston skirt coating is a ceramic reinforced dry film lubricant with a low affinity for oil. It protects the piston skirt from heat, friction and wear, which reduces parasitic drag while decreasing heat saturation into the skirt. RP enhances the lubricity between the skirt and the cylinder wall, reducing galling and wear of the piston assembly and increasing the engine’s longevity. The result is quicker acceleration without damage to the piston.
The same family of dry film lubricant, PolyDyn DL, is what we run on bearings and valve train. Overbuild figures for every coating are on the technical data page.
