What do PolyDyn engine coatings actually do?

PolyDyn polymer coatings do three jobs on an engine part. They protect the part from heat saturation, they reduce friction between moving surfaces, and in most cases they strengthen the component and make it more efficient. Which coating we specify depends on the part and the job it has to do.

Which engine parts can you coat?

Pistons, bearings, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, oil pans and windage trays, crankshafts, transmissions, automotive pumps, valve train components, headers and exhaust, and carburetors. If a part sees heat or friction, there is usually a coating for it. Tell us what you are building and we will tell you what we would specify.

How much thickness does a coating add?

PolyDyn coatings are built for tight clearances. Overbuild runs from .0002 inch to .0007 inch depending on the coating. Full specifications are on our Technical Data page.

Do you coat industrial parts as well as race engines?

Yes. Alongside the motorsports work we coat gas turbines, oilfield components and industrial engines. Same coatings, same chemistry, applied to parts that have to survive a duty cycle instead of a race weekend.

What is TX-7 and how is it different from a coating?

Coatings are applied to a bare part in our Houston shop before assembly. TX-7 is a friction reducing treatment you pour in yourself, formulated to work with your motor oil, transmission fluid, differential gear oil or power steering fluid. Both reduce friction.
